God in a Godless City
Dani Lefkowitz
Copenhagen is generally considered a secular city. But, hidden there are small and vibrant religious communities. In this project, I highlight the Jewish community in Copenhagen and demonstrate the different individuals that compose it. This collection juxtaposes pictures of relative harmony and discord. Following a terrorist attack in 2015, armed soldiers of the state have been ordered to protect all Jewish sites. I show both the challenges facing the Jewish community today contrasted with images of the community’s strength, warmth, and perseverance. This is a special community that has welcomed me and been an integral part of my experience abroad. I hope to show a resilient community that is not in tension with its surroundings, but rather, stronger from it.
