Spring 2018
in the image of god
Charlotte Rauner
I am a conscientious observer don’t hold me
against my actions, they are simply a product
of religious schooling coffee dates with a god
born into his role what if I had applied
what if he had emancipated ran away
set the family estate on fire screamed
I will not be their god it seems possible
I have only seen what I paint and I’m painting
acrylics on wood oil on canvas primary colors
more yellow than intended he is now trapped
immortalized find me something else to do
another god to follow, our evenings together are
rehearsed – he does not like the same food as me
the same art or movies my image of him is blurry
against my actions, they are simply a product
of religious schooling coffee dates with a god
born into his role what if I had applied
what if he had emancipated ran away
set the family estate on fire screamed
I will not be their god it seems possible
I have only seen what I paint and I’m painting
acrylics on wood oil on canvas primary colors
more yellow than intended he is now trapped
immortalized find me something else to do
another god to follow, our evenings together are
rehearsed – he does not like the same food as me
the same art or movies my image of him is blurry
