icing my sister’s name on her birthday cake/pinky swears/building a house of cards/spooning out a quarter-cup of flour/writing a poem/building a house/holding/anyone/folding laundry/measuring the sugar as it pours into my coffee/measuring the base/for a house/for the kitchen/for the oven/for the birthday cake/tucking the corners of the fitted sheet together/fitting the sheet across the mattress/fitting puzzle pieces/together/acting normal at a birthday party/shuffling cards/washing dishes/crossing/my heart/building a gingerbread house/folding the flour mixture into the beaten egg whites/unscrewing a light bulb/lighting birthday candles/holding hands/during a prayer/eating cake with/anything but my bare/hands
